Feb. Update Meeting Sign-Ups + Biweekly eDNA Analysis Discussion Starts This Week
Learn more about eDNA analyses in biweekly discussions and share your latest eDNA updates early February
Sign-ups are open to present at our February updates meeting, and we’re starting a new eDNA biweekly seminar this Friday.
Happy 2021! We hope you’ve had the chance to breathe and rest up as January pulls forward. We’ve got tons of events lined up to kick off 2021:
Starting this Friday, January 8th at 12PM PST via Zoom, we will host a biweekly eDNA discussion seminar geared towards graduate students and those interested in learning more about eDNA analysis. Here, we dive into the fundamentals of eDNA, how to measure it, and what questions we can and cannot ask with it. No previous environmental DNA experience is required, all are welcome to join! Seminars will be held every other Friday through April starting tomorrow, January 8th at 12PM PST. Email Dr. Rachel Meyer at rameyer@ucsc.edu for the Zoom link.
The 1st public virtual field trip on the LA River will be held January 30th at 10AM PST. Join us via Zoom to see how we collect sediment and water samples to monitor the river’s vast biodiversity and help us make observations in the field. Stay tuned for more details in the next two weeks!
Our next monthly updates meeting will be Friday, February 12th at 11AM PST via Zoom. Interested in presenting updates on your eDNA work or getting feedback from the CALeDNA team? Email us at ucedna@gmail.com to sign up!

Despite a shortage in lab supplies due to COVID, we’re pleased to have several completed eDNA libraries from the LA River, Santa Monica Mountain lagoons, and dung beetle soil that will be uploaded online by the end of the month!
We can’t wait to catch up with our entire CALeDNA community. Be sure to follow us on our newest Facebook page and our current Instagram and Twitter accounts to stay up-to-date on all our projects. See you all soon!
